What funds are required to start a Jill’s Buddy Camp?

The total funds needed for Jill’s Buddy Camp 2023 was $7,328. These funds were used to purchase 80 hours of the following professional services: Camp Director, speech/language development, adaptive physical education, pre-school social skills education, craft arts and social-emotional group guidance. Funds for fieldtrip fees, student transportation services, camp snacks and drinks as well as supplies, materials, etc… for various educational and therapeutic activities will also be covered by the above funding amount.

Where can I source funds to start a Jill’s Buddy Camp?

Public sources include: L.E.A. Special Education Funds, Flow-Through Grant, Local Budget Excess Funds, Recreation Therapeutic Summer Camp Funds for Pre-Schoolers, Excess Recreation Funds, L.E.A. or Recreation “Carry-Over” Funds from a previous budget year.

Private sources include: Local Community Clubs/Organizations, Private Donors, Past Buddies and Their Families, Churches, Local Businesses

What personnel do you need to start a Jill’s Buddy Camp?

Camp Director

Hours Needed:
15-20 hours before camp
8:00 am - 12:30 pm Camp Week
5 hours after camp

Cost: Donated, 11 or 12 month Contract Assignment, or Annual Contracts Per Hourly Rate for a school or recreation administrator.


Pre-School Special Educator

Hours Needed:
8:00 am - 12:30 pm Camp Week

Cost: 11 or 12 month Contract Assignment or Annual Contracts Per Hourly Rate for a school division’s pre-school special education teacher or recreation coordinator.


Three Teachers/Therapists

Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist, Elementary P.E. Teacher, Elementary Guidance Counselor/School Psychologist, Elementary Reading Teacher, Kindergarten or Primary Elementary Teacher

Hours Needed:
8:15 am - 10:45 pm Camp Week

Cost: 11 or 12 month Contract Assignment, or Annual Contracts Per Hourly Rate or a Special Summer Contract Rate

Bus Driver/Snack Maker

Combined or two separate positions

Hours Needed:
9:30 am - 12:45 pm Camp Week

Cost: Rate per hour


Camp Photographer/Videographer

Hours Needed:
8:30 am - 12:30 pm selected times

Cost: High School Yearbook or Newspaper volunteer or hired at rate per hour


Administrative/Secretarial Support

Hours Needed:
10 hours before camp
4 hours after camp

Cost: $15-$20 per hour
or donated by School Central Office, Rec Department, etc.
